Recovery-Based Resolution Tips

A Different You from 2022

It isn’t always easy going into a new year while still maneuvering your recovery journey. In fact, you may notice that your resolutions look a little different going into 2023 while overcoming addiction. It’s important to outline your goals for the year to keep yourself on your sobriety path – and remember it’s never too late to pick back up on resolutions if you fall off for a bit.

At Mount Sinai Wellness Center, we want to set you up for a successful new year. That’s why we’ve outlined recovery-based resolution tips to help you get started thinking about what your goals are for the new year. Feel free to read our blog for more information, and contact our team at (800) 353-4673 to inquire about our programs.

Ideas to Get You Started

There are many ways in which you can tie together resolutions and recovery. Each day of the new year is a chance to work on yourself and your goals – and you can start over at any time, if needed. Some mental health and recovery-focused ideas to get you started may include:

  • Taking time to journal and sit with your thoughts
  • Volunteering at an organization you care about
  • Understanding and setting clear boundaries with friends and family members
  • Decreasing social media use
  • Meditating when having addictive cravings
  • Making it a habit to get outside at least once a day

Resolutions don’t have to be extravagant, and you can always build upon them as the year progresses. It can be difficult transitioning from rehab back into your normal routine, especially with certain triggers that can make sobriety difficult.

In fact, the three most common hurdles in early recovery are anxiety, boredom, and loneliness. By finding healthy coping mechanisms to help manage and combat these hurdles, you can stay on track to maintaining a sober 2023.
