Cevonna graduated with High Honors from Kennesaw State University with a Master of Social Work degree. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drawing and Painting from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. She is a Certified Advanced Alcohol & Drug Counselor and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Cevonna has also completed basic training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), which uses therapeutic eye movements as well as elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Guided Imagery, Gestalt, and Psychodynamic Therapy to help desensitize clients to distressing memories and feelings while providing an opportunity to experience positive cognitions and emotions in association with the previously upsetting images. ART is an evidenced-based therapy used for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and she is excited to be working in this modality at Mt Sinai.
Prior to joining the Mt Sinai Wellness team as a female trauma therapist, Cevonna worked in western North Carolina for more than 5 years as an outpatient clinician within a community mental health agency, and later as team lead for the agency’s Community Support Team, serving high-acuity dual diagnosis adults. Cevonna also worked within the North Carolina DWI program as a treatment provider.
