Primary Therapist

Bio

Cassandra graduated cum laude from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and graduated from University of Southern California through the distance program with a Master’s Degree in Social Work, with a concentration in Families and Children. She has been trained in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and is the primary female DBT therapist at Mt Sinai. She is also a certified trauma professional (CTP) and works on trauma from an emotional standpoint, learning to manage the emotional byproducts of trauma so they do not interfere with daily life. Cassandra has been working with individuals with persistent mental illness and substance abuse disorders for the past several years, including individuals with addiction, severe anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicidal behaviors. She has worked in many stages of residential treatment, including rehabilitation centers, inpatient psychiatric facilities, and even long term care. As a social worker, Cassandra is passionate about meeting people where they are, empowering individuals to advocate for themselves, and encouraging them to reach their true potential, without the weight of drugs and alcohol holding them down. Along with empowering current clients, she believes there is power in teaching individuals to share their story after treatment for the betterment of those still struggling with addiction and mental illness. Fun Fact: Cassandra’s clients have dubbed her the “mermaid therapist” due to her love of mermaids and all things mythical. By using images of mermaids, unicorns, and other mythical creatures, she encourages her clients to find their “childlike wonder” which can promote positivity and joy.
